The Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) was founded over 124 years ago! It is the professional association representing the state's veterinarians and is dedicated to advancing organized veterinary medicine in Indiana.
Its governing body is the IVMA Board of Directors. Committees, both standing and ad hoc, are charged with accomplishing the objectives of the association at the direction of the Board. Committees are responsible for the ongoing work of the association. Ad hoc committees are utilized to accomplish specific projects within a limited time frame.
The association is a significant information resource, both for its members and for those outside the profession. It is a nexus point for all the issues, factors, and organizations that will have an impact on Indiana's veterinarians. The IVMA communicates items of importance to its members through its newsletter, brochures, faxes, and web page, which are overseen by the Executive Director and the Board. Our members are just a phone call away (800/270-0747) from answers to their specific questions because of the expertise of our Executive Director and the central IVMA office.
The IVMA interacts regularly with several outside groups. Our Delegate and Alternate Delegate represent the IVMA at the American Veterinary Medical Association national meetings throughout the year. The association also has continued dialogue with the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, the Indiana Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, and the State Board of Animal Health. The association also promotes a positive image of veterinarians through its public relations efforts statewide. Legislation is monitored during each legislative session which may have an effect on veterinary medicine in Indiana.
The IVMA is a dynamic and effective advocate for organized veterinary medicine. It represents and serves its members as no other organization can.
