The theme of the World Congress is: Better education, better relief. One of its main goals is to advance the management of pain centers to a level of excellence. Much useful work in this direction is being carried out by various pain associations whose contribution in educating physicians about pain syndromes and their management is of immense importance. However, there is also a need to implement the knowledge continuously provided by various pain associations.
WIP aims to supplement these efforts at implementation. This is being done by providing pain centers with mutual opportunities for education and training, and by promoting higher standards of work efficiency. Among other things, WIP develops links among pain centers, helps physicians and the public get acquainted with the activity of these centers, promotes knowledge and management skills at each pain center, provide opportunities for patient consultations through its many links, advance physician training, evolve better treatment protocols, develop criteria for quality certification and provide a specialised examination which offers the opportunity to be certified in interventional pain practice.
